What Are You Grateful for Today?
When I'm upset about something or angry at someone to get over it, I dig into every interaction with that person and look for a blessing from it.
For instance, my son decided to move to another state with his family, and I was devastated. I had to take some time and question myself about these feelings. One of the questions I asked was, 'What is the root of this upset, and is it changeable?' I realized that if I didn't get caught up in my feelings, I realized it was a good move for them. Changing my point of view about this move allowed me to see how it was a positive, not a negative. When I came out of my upset, I also recognized that I was really excited to visit them in Florida.
One of my mentors and founder of Access Consciousness, Gary Douglas says:
'Gratitude grows gratitude in others'.
What did he mean by that? That was my first thought. Do you always focus on the things that you don't have? I know I did. When I started to look at what I would like to create as my life and living, many things began to change.
Gratitude does not exclude.
Being grateful for my son's move changed the way I created my life. When I excluded him and his choice, I felt alone. When I included their move then, I began to reconnect and have a greater sense of joy and ease in my everyday life. Having gratitude for me and my ability to be flexible changed everything. I had to acknowledge that I am not God and cannot choose for others. What I can do is control the way I react or embrace their actions.
